【Industry Application】Measurement of Wall Thickness in Medical Transparent Tubing

Nov 21, 2023

Abstract: Spectral confocal measurement technology has rapidly become a popular sensor in industrial measurement due to its high precision, allowing for larger tilt angles of the measured surface, fast measurement speed, high real-time performance, low requirements for the condition of the measured surface, and its unique advantage of high resolution. It is widely applied in fields such as biomedical, materials science, semiconductor manufacturing, surface engineering research, precision measurement, and 3C electronics.

Introduction

The measurement scenario in this case uses the TS-C4000F spectral confocal sensor head and CCS controller from Vision Smart. The TS-C series spectral confocal displacement sensors can achieve a repeatability of 0.025µm, a linear accuracy of ±0.02% of F.S., a sampling speed of 10kHz, and a measurement angle of ±65 degrees. They are capable of adapting to various material surfaces such as mirror, transparent, semi-transparent, film layers, metal rough surfaces, and multi-layer glass, and support data transmission interfaces including RS485, USB, Ethernet, and analog signals.

Measurement of Medical Transparent Tube Wall Thickness

1.Preparation: Install the spectral confocal displacement sensor and connect the controller to the computer. Open the data acquisition software, set test parameters such as sampling frequency and sampling time. Manually adjust the one-dimensional motion stage to find the highest point of the tube and measure the corresponding thickness.

2.Measurement Requirements:Stably measure the tube wall thickness under static conditions and compare it with a caliper.

3.Measurement Method:Manually adjust the one-dimensional motion stage to bring the spot to the highest position of the tube wall (the point closest to the probe), set the refractive index, and then measure the wall thickness.

Analysis of Measurement Results

The thickness measured using the C4000F is basically consistent with the thickness measured using a vernier caliper. The measured thickness data is stable with fluctuations around 1μm, capable of meeting the measurement requirements for the wall thickness of medical transparent tubes within ±2mm.
